Centro Cultural La Moneda invites you to explore the exhibition “Huellas de Cuncuna”. This exhibition, the first in the CCLM’s Reading Space, aims to engage children of yesterday and today by valuing the literary and graphic legacy of Cuncuna from the National Publisher Quimantú (1971-1973), a collection founded and directed by sociologist and journalist Arturo Navarro, which influenced readers of its time and the design and illustration of children’s literature in Chile.
In addition to displaying original books, iconic characters, and other documents related to Cuncuna’s history, this small exhibition will present reissued books and provide a space for children to play and express themselves, encouraging creativity and imagination.
The National Publisher Quimantú’s editions dedicated to the children’s world were supported by the Educational Children’s Publications Department of Universidad de Chile. The Cuncuna collection, aimed at preschool children, comprised two series: Cuncuna Cuentos and Cuncuna Pintamonos. The first presented stories and poems, with adult supplements, by national authors like Marta Brunet, Floridor Pérez, and Walter Garib, and international authors like Oscar Wilde, Horacio Quiroga, and the Grimm Brothers, among others, as well as anonymous tales from other regions. Each issue was illustrated by artists like Guido, Nato, Hervi, Marta Carrasco, María Angélica Pizarro, Irene Domínguez, and others. Pintamonos was a series of coloring books.
